Meet the SCSU Students involved with The SAW Lab!

Madison (Maddy) Feshler
SCSU Senior
Psychology Major
At SCSU I am Secretary of Zeta Delta Epsilon Academic Honor Society, a member of Active Minds, and a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology. I am also part of the SCSU softball team as a student-athlete.
In the future, I hope to obtain my PhD in clinical psychology. I am interested in mental health and well-being, and how they may be influenced by factors such as age, culture, gender, socioeconomic status/poverty, and familial/peer relationships. I want to focus on anxiety and mood disorders, and what contributes to or exacerbates the onset of these disorders, and continue to investigate how we can effectively treat such disorders. After completing a PhD program, I hope to end up teaching and conducting research at a university, and perhaps have my own practice one day.
Outside of school, I am a team captain for the New Haven chapter of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. In my free time I enjoy reading, going to Rhode Island beaches, scrapbooking, and spoiling my husky, Mia.

Shawn Morris
SCSU Senior
Psychology Major
In addition to attending SCSU full time, I am an Employment Specialist in the Behavioral Health Department of Marrakech Inc. Through my previous experience of vocational rehabilitation and behavioral health, I have obtained varying skills, abilities, and knowledge related to clinical services.
I have worked extensively with individuals with acquired brain injuries, cognitive deficits, and social difficulties where my primary objective is to assist individuals in finding the employment which they will not only enjoy and find fulfilling, but will be the greatest benefit to the employer. I am currently a member of Connecticut Mental Health Center’s Team E, in which I work closely with a board certified team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and clinicians, where I both advise, and receive advisement on clients that we share. My experience with this team has further developed my knowledge of both medical, and therapeutic techniques to further improve an individual’s life and wellbeing, as well as from an in depth knowledge of current medical practices and medicines that are used and no longer used. Experience with this team has also aided in my knowledge of current diagnosis practices that are used to develop a plan of action for each and every client.
Following graduation in May 2019, I hope to attend a Ph.D program for Industrial Organizational Psychology. My interests primarily include researching the perceptions of intelligence in the workplace.

Brian Petrucci
SCSU Sophomore
Psychology Major
Along with the stress and anxiety research we are doing in this lab, I am also very interested in the areas of memory and impression forming. What I hope to accomplish in the future is to help as many people as I can, whether that be through adding more research to the field or by becoming a therapist.
In my free time, I enjoy activities like ultimate frisbee, skateboarding, and hiking.

Kaylee Roux
SCSU Junior
Psychology Major, Behavioral Neuroscience Concentration
I am Vice President of Omega Zeta Pi Sorority here on campus. I am also an Orientation Ambassador and peer mentor for first year students. I absolutely love working with people.
Eventually I hope to earn my master’s degree and become a genetic counselor. I would specifically love to be a pre-natal genetics counselor. The biology and mental health during pregnancy is intriguing to me. I want to be able to help pregnant couples in an exciting, or possibly scary, time in their life as they learn more about their fetus’ health.

Juliana DiMascia
SCSU Graduate
Psychology Major, Mental Health Concentration
I attended Southern Connecticut State University for my undergraduate degree, graduated in May 2018, and now hold a B.A. in Psychology. I was also a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
In my time at SCSU I explored all of my options within the field of Psychology, including two internship programs. In the Fall of 2017, I was an intern at Rushford in Middletown and co-facilitated counseling sessions for those trying to overcome addiction. Within the Spring 2018, I completed an internship in the guidance office at Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury. I currently work full time as an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapist within the Stratford high school system.
My ultimate goal is to gain more experience within the field of Industrial- Organizational Psychology and apply for a Masters program within the next year.
